Commitment 2022: Mariannette Miller-Meeks candidate profile
CHALLENGER CHRISTINA BOHANNAN IN REPRESENTING THE DISTRICT. WE ALWAYS PUT IOWA FIRST. REPUBLICAN MARY ANNETTE MILLER-MEEKS SAYS IT WAS CONCERN OVER HEALTH CARE THAT FIRST PUSHED HER TO RUN FOR CONGRESS IN 2020. I WANTED US TO BE ABLE TO HAVE CHOICE TO HAVE PERSONALIZED OF OUR HEALTH CARE AND TO BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR OURSELVES RATHER THAN GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRATS COMING IN BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR AND THE DECISIONS THAT YOU SHOULD BE MAKING. SHE SPENT THE PAST TWO YEARS IN WASHINGTON AND D.C. REPRESENTING MOST OF SOUTHEAST IOWA. THIS TIME AROUND, SHE’S TAKING ON A NEW OPPONENT, DEMOCRAT CHRISTINA BOHANNAN, AND A NEWLY REDRAWN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT HOPING DISTRICT ONE VOTERS WILL SEND HER BACK FOR A SECOND TERM IN CONGRESS. WITHIN YOUR DISTRICT, THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH IDEOLOGIES THAT MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM YOU. HOW DO YOU REPRESENT IOWANS THAT MAY DISAGREE WITH YOU POLITICALLY? WELL, MANY PEOPLE KNOW WITHIN THE DISTRICT THAT I’VE TAKEN SOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT VOTES. AN EXAMPLE OF THAT IS THE LOWER FUEL, FOOD AND FUELS ACT. SO TRYING TO GET YEAR ROUND E15, TRYING TO LOWER FOOD PRICES. I WAS ONE OF SEVEN REPUBLICANS THAT VOTED FOR THAT BILL. WHY? BECAUSE IT WAS GOOD FOR IOWA AND IT’S GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY. SHE SAYS HER TOP PRIORITIES ARE TACKLING INFLATION, SECURING THE BORDER, STOPPING A RISE IN CRIME AND IMPROVING EDUCATION. I’LL CONTINUE TO WORK HARD TO LISTEN TO BE AVAILABLE AND MAKE SURE I’M ADDRESSING THEIR CONCERNS. NOT MY CONCERNS, BUT THE CONCERNS ON RISING PRICES, THE CONCERNS ON CRIME, THE CONCERNS ON EDUCATION, THE CONCERNS ON BORDER, AND GETTING A HANDLE ON INCREASING PRICES, BE THEY FOOD, GASOLINE OR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.
