NEWS AT SIX STARTS RIGHT NOW. AN EMBATTLED IOWA SHERIFF’S DEPUTY HAS RESIGNED. IT COMES WEEKS AFTER A HAYRIDE CRASH THAT LEFT SEVERAL KIDS BADLY HURT. ONLY ON vlog. MARCUS MCINTOSH FOUND OUT THE RESIGNATION WAS MADE OFFICIAL HOURS BEFORE THE DEPUTY WAS NAMED IN A LAWSUIT. MARCUS STACY AND BEN DAVID. HIS RESIGNATION AS A KEOKUK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WAS ACCEPTED AT MONDAY MORNING. SUPERVISORS MEETING COUNTY SUPERVISORS MEETING HOURS LATER, HETTY WAS NAMED IN A LAWSUIT FILED BY THE PARENTS OF A CHILD INJURED IN THAT HAYRIDE CRASH. NEARLY THREE WEEKS AGO. THE CRASH HAPPENED OUTSIDE THE KEOKUK COUNTY TOWN OF WAJIR THE NIGHT OF OCTOBER 15TH. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE TRAILER BEING PULLED BY A PICKUP CRASHED INTO THE DITCH ALONGSIDE THIS GRAVEL ROAD. SEVERAL KIDS WERE HURT, INCLUDING THE 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER OF BRONSON MCCULLY AND AMY STEWART. ON MONDAY, THEY FILED A LAWSUIT NOT ONLY AGAINST DAVID HETTY, BUT ALSO HIS WIFE, VICTORIA. THE CHILD’S PARENTS SAY THE CATTESE ORGANIZED THE PARTY. DANIEL BRUBAKER IS ALSO BEING SUED. HE IS ACCUSED OF DRIVING THE PICKUP THAT CRASHED THE COUPLE BEHIND THE LAWSUIT CLAIMS THEIR DAUGHTER IDENTIFIED ONLY AS M WAS THROWN FROM THE TRAILER AND RUN OVER BY IT. THEY SAY SHE SUFFERED SEVERAL INJURIES. SOME OF WHICH WILL BE LIFE ALTERING IN THE LAWSUIT. THE GIRL’S PARENTS CLAIM THE CATTESE HAD A DUTY TO PROTECT THEIR GUESTS AND THAT BRUBAKER HAD A DUTY TO OPERATE THE PICKUP SAFELY. THE GIRL’S MOTHER DECLINED TO SPEAK ON CAMERA, BUT THEIR ATTORNEY SENT CASEY A STATEMENT SAYING THE FAMILY HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT OVER THE PAST TWO AND A HALF WEEKS AND THAT THEY ARE FOCUSED ON HEALING AND THE STRUGGLES AHEAD. THE ATTORNEY WROTE THAT THEY LOOK FORWARD TO HOLDING ACCOUNTABLE THOSE WHO CAUSED THESE INJURIES AND PAIN. I TRY SPEAKING WITH EACH OF THE DEFENDANTS TODAY, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REACH ANY OF THEM. THREE DAYS AFTER THE CRASH, THE KEOKUK COUNTY SHERIFF SAID THE INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE AND HAD BEEN FORWARDED TO THE IOWA ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE TO REVIEW FOR POSSIBLE CHARGES.
