Parents of injured Iowa girl file lawsuit after hay rack ride crash in Keokuk County
An Iowa family has filed a lawsuit after several children were thrown from a hay rack in a crash near What Cheer earlier this month.
Plaintiffs Amy Stewart and Bronson McCulley claim their 12-year-old daughter suffered "life-altering injuries" in the crash, which sent several other Sigourney Community School District students to the hospital.
The lawsuit claims David and Victoria Heady organized the party, which was not a school-sponsored event. The lawsuit also claims Dan Brubaker drove in a "negligent" manner, causing the ride to overturn.
Grant A. Woodard, the attorney for the plaintiffs, provided this statement to vlog:
“My client and family have gone through a lot over the past two and half weeks — nothing any child should have to go through. She and her family are focused on her healing and the multitude of struggles ahead. We look forward to holding accountable those who caused these injuries and pain."
David Heady's resignation as a Keokuk County sheriff's deputy was accepted at Monday morning's county supervisors meeting.
vlog has not been able to confirm whether criminal charges have been filed.
vlog has attempted to reach the Headys and Brubaker but has not received a response.
