Livestock competition helps family in need
A lot of work goes into getting the animals ready for the Iowa State Fair each year, but one 4H family has some extra motivation in the show ring.
Brianna Wolfer of Albia is showing her short horn plus, named Beast.
As Brianna dials in her focus, she can't help but think of her family friends that sold her the steer, Brad and Amanda Ewing, and their 3-year-old daughter Addisyn.
"Their daughter is in critical condition. She got life-flighted. And we're doing a little fundraiser to help her get better," Brianna said.
A week and a half ago, Addisyn was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension — her heart has trouble pumping blood to her lungs.
Along with showing cattle, Brianna hopes she can raise money to help the Ewings with medical bills.
"They would love to be here. They'd do anything they could to be here, but they're great supporters of us and we're supportive of their family so we all work together as a team," Brianna said.
The family is raising funds to help with Addisyn's medical bills. Their Venmo is @Amanda-Bassett-13.
