People in Ames are excited as construction progresses on CYTown, a new district between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum.
Since groundbreaking in April, the site has been busy, with the three-story McFarland Clinic expected to offer a range of medical services. The facility will span 78,000 square feet and include services such as urgent care and pediatrics.
"We know that there is an access need for additional providers," Jenni Talbott, McFarland Clinic, said. "The care and the services continue to grow and expand. And so we hope to meet that need by being able to offer more space."
The clinic is one of eight buildings planned for CYTown, featuring restaurants, retail spaces, an outdoor amphitheater and eventually a hotel.
"It's going to be a tremendous opportunity for not only the Iowa State community, but Ames and central Iowa to come together as well and really use the multipurpose district for what it would be intended for," said Iowa State senior associate athletics director Nick Joos.
The sights and sounds of construction were visible Friday as crews worked on the building and the surrounding parking lot.
"We're making really good progress and we're really excited about what this project is going to do, not only for Iowa State but for Ames and for central Iowa as well," Joos said.
The McFarland Clinic is expected to open by late 2026 with most of CYTown scheduled to open by late 2027.
