This July has now claimed the title of the wettest on record, with 10.62 inches of rain, surpassing the previous record of 10.5 inches set in 1958. As a result, localized flood warnings remain active. The Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers are of particular concern, where minor flooding is ongoing.
The forecast for the next few days brings welcome relief with mostly dry and clearer skies. Thursday will see bright conditions with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s, well below the usual heat for this time of year.
Friday is expected to follow suit, providing comfortable weather for outdoor plans. Although a slight chance of isolated showers may appear to the north or on Sunday, the outlook remains far from any significant rainfall. High-pressure systems over the Great Lakes could help keep upcoming disturbances at bay.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain pleasant into early next week, with highs holding steady and dew points in the mid-to-upper 50s. By midweek, however, summer heat will make its return as temperatures climb back toward 90°F, just in time for the start of state fair festivities.
