Iowa weather: Rain chances return tomorrow; Halloween forecast
THAT. THOUGHTS. THOUGHTS WITH THEM FOR SURE. YEAH. AND IT’S A MONSTER OF A STORM. IT IS. YEAH. AND I’VE GOT IT PULLED UP ON THE SATELLITE AND RADAR RIGHT NOW. THIS IS INFRARED SATELLITE. BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT THING JUST SPINNING LIKE A TOP. THE EYE OF THAT INCREDIBLY DEFINED AGAIN, A CAT FIVE STORM RIGHT NOW SUSTAINED WINDS OF 175. WE’VE GOT GUSTS OVER 220MPH. SO THIS WILL EVENTUALLY, AS ZANE SAID, PULL TO THE NORTH. BUT FOR US AGAIN, MUCH MORE TRANQUIL WEATHER OUT THERE. WE’VE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER THAT’S WORKED ITS WAY ON IN. OTHERWISE ANY OF THE RAIN THAT WE COULD SEE STILL OFF TO THE WEST. SO THIS IS OUR DAY. HOW IT’S CRACKED OUT FOR US HERE. YOU CAN SEE WE’VE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER THAT MADE ITS WAY ON IN. NEVER REALLY DECIDED TO LEAVE, DID IT? AND STILL SOME GOOD COLORS OUT THERE THOUGH. IN INDIANOLA YOU’VE GOT THE REDS. WE’VE GOT ONE TREE THAT’S TRYING TO DO IT ALL HERE WITH THE GREENS, YELLOWS AND ORANGES ALL ACROSS IT. SO A NICE DAY FOR US HERE. NICE FALL DAY. BUT AGAIN TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE A BIT OF A SOAKER. YOU CAN SEE RAIN BUILDING ITS WAY IN BY THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. 6 A.M. IF YOU’RE HEADING OFF TO WORK, DEFINITELY BRING THAT UMBRELLA WITH YOU. IF YOU’RE GOING TO HEAD OUT FOR LUNCH AT WORK, MAYBE YOU’RE HEADING OUT TO RECESS. WELL, WE HAVE GOT A LOT OF RAIN THAT’S GOING TO BE WORKING ITS WAY THROUGH. HEAVIEST IS GOING TO BE THROUGH THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE STATE. BUT WITH ALL THIS RAIN AND ALL THIS CLOUD COVER, WE ARE NOT GOING TO GAIN MUCH GROUND WITH TEMPERATURES. WE’RE TALKING HIGHS TOMORROW, UPPER 40S TO LOW 50S. AND I THINK INTO WEDNESDAY WE’LL GENERALLY START TO WARM UP. BUT AS FAR AS HOW MUCH RAIN YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE, I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED TO SEE A WIDESPREAD AREA OF AN INCH TO AN INCH AND A HALF, WITH SOME TOTALS UPWARDS OF TWO INCHES THROUGH THE WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE. EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE, QUARTER INCH TO MAYBE A HALF OF AN INCH. BUT AGAIN, THIS IS REALLY GOING TO BE A SYSTEM THAT’S GOING TO DRIVE THAT RAIN WEST OF 35. SO WE HAVEN’T SEEN MANY BIG RAINFALLS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. LAST TIME WE HAD A RAINFALL OF MORE THAN 1.1IN, WHICH IS WHAT WE COULD GET WITH THIS WAS BACK ON AUGUST 6TH AND SEVENTH WHEN WE GOT OVER AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN, SO IT’S BEEN A BIT FOR US SINCE WE HAVE SEEN THAT. AND YOU COMPARE OUR LAST FEW MONTHS HERE TO WHEN WE HAD RECORD RAINFALL IN JULY, 10.62IN. WE’VE ONLY SEEN ROUGHLY FIVE AND A QUARTER AVERAGE FOR THAT TIME FRAME, NEARLY DOUBLE THAT. SO IT HAS BEEN VERY DRY OUT THERE FOR US. AND YOU CAN SEE TEMPERATURE WISE, WE’RE GOING TO BE HANGING OUT IN THE LOW 50S FOR A BIT HERE. THAT RAIN WORKS ITS WAY IN. WE KICK UP A BREEZE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THAT SYSTEM, AND THEN WE CATCH MORE WIND ON FRIDAY FOR HALLOWEEN. SO HOPEFULLY HANGING ON TO THOSE TREAT BAGS AND THEY’RE NOT BLOWN AWAY. BUT CHANCE FOR A SHOWER AS WE WORK OUR WAY TOWARDS THE END OF DAYLIGHT SAVING.
