Iowa weather: Weekend arctic blast will bring some snow and ice chances
We have one more nice day before the much colder and active weekend. Highs for today will be in the mid and low 60s with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. The winds will pick up for today again, ranging from 10 to 20 mph from the west-northwest, then calming down overnight.

Clouds will thicken up tonight and rain chances will increase into Saturday morning. Rain-snow mix will move into northern Iowa along with parts of central Iowa through the morning, but the best chance for any minor accumulations will be over the northern half of the state. Most if not all will remain under an inch with little to no accumulations expected for central to southern Iowa. Lingering rain and snow chances will push into the evening and overnight.
Any moisture on roads and other surfaces will have a chance to freeze by Sunday morning as temperatures drop into the 20s. Any early Sunday morning travel could see some slick roads.
The winds will stay strong for Sunday with wind chills in the teens and 20s. Another hard freeze is expected overnight into the new week. We won’t see above-average temperatures return until Tuesday afternoon. Highs will stay in the 50s and 60s for the rest of the week.
