Iowa State football player charged in sports wagering investigation returns to practice
One of the Iowa State football players facing charges related to the ongoing sports wagering investigation has returned to the field.
Jake Remsburg, a redshirt senior offensive lineman, returned to practice this week, less than two weeks before Iowa State's season opener vs. Northern Iowa.
Remsburg was charged earlier this summer with placing 273 wagers totaling $1,108. Six of his bets were placed on NCAA sanctioned basketball and football events, .
The criminal complaint says Remsburg "said he tried to avoid problematic wagering by focusing his online sports wagers on UFC and NBA games and avoiding wagers on NCAA-sanctioned contests." Remsburg is not accused of betting before the age of 21 or betting on any Iowa State athletics events.
Remsburg, who starred at West Des Moines Valley before going to Iowa State, played in eight games last year after missing the start of the season with an injury. He has played in 29 games in his Iowa State career.
Three other players charged in the investigation — running back Jirehl Brock, defensive lineman Isaiah Lee and offensive lineman Dodge Sauser — have since left the program.
Quarterback Hunter Dekkers and tight end DeShawn Hanika were also charged. Both are still listed on Iowa State's roster but are not participating in team activities, according to an Iowa State spokesperson.
