Keokuk County Sheriff's Office employee placed on leave as hayrack ride crash is investigated
WITH BREAKING NEWS. WE’VE JUST LEARNED A KEOKUK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE EMPLOYEE IS ON LEAVE TONIGHT. IT COMES FOUR DAYS AFTER A GROUP OF KIDS WAS THROWN FROM A HAYRACK RIDE AND ONLY vlog HAS BEEN PRESSING FOR ANSWERS HERE. BEAU BOWMAN HAS THE NEW INFORMATION WE GOT JUST MINUTES AGO. BO STACY KEOKUK COUNTY SHERIFF CASEY HANNA SAYS THE INVESTIGA GATION INTO THE SATURDAY NIGHT CRASH IS MOSTLY COMPLETE AND HAS BEEN REFERRED TO TO THE IOWA ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE FOR REVIEW. THAT’S BECAUSE AN OFF DUTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE EMPLOYEE WAS INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT. THAT EMPLOYEE IS ON LEAVE TONIGHT, BUT THAT DOESN’T ANSWER EVERYTHING. PARENTS STILL DON’T HAVE ANY ANSWERS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT. FOR DAYS AFTER THEIR SEVENTH GRADERS WERE THROWN FROM A TRAILER DURING A HAYRACK RIDE INTO A DITCH. WE LEARNED ON MONDAY THAT THERE WAS SOME KIND OF ACCIDENT DURING THE SATURDAY NIGHT RIDE ON A GRAVEL ROAD JUST EAST OF WHAT CHEER? SEVERAL KIDS WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES LIKE BROKEN VERTEBRAE, ORGAN DAMAGE AND OTHER BROKEN BONES. BUT NO ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE. I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE THAT HAD TO DEAL WITH THAT AND PRAY THAT THE TRUTH COMES OUT. RUMORS ARE SWIRLING IN THE SMALL TOWN OF SIGOURNEY, MANY WONDERING WHY NO ONE HAS BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE YET. DOES THAT MAKE YOU A LITTLE UNNERVED, OR HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? NOT REAL GOOD. SOME PARENTS CLAIM ONE OF THE MEN INVOLVED IN ORGANIZING THE RIDE IS A SHERIFF’S DEPUTY AND ADULTS AT THE PARTY WERE DRINKING ALCOHOL. ANY OF THE DEPUTIES PUT ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE? AS OF RIGHT NOW, I’M NOT GOING TO SPEAK TO ANY MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION. AGAIN, WE’VE JUST LEARNED A SHERIFF’S OFFICE EMPLOYEE IS ON LEAVE WHILE THE INCIDENT IS INVESTIGATED. IT’S NOT CLEAR WHO THAT PERSON IS OR WHAT THEIR POSITION IS. WE DO WANT TO NOTE THAT THE HAY RIDE WAS NOT A SCHOOL SANCTIONED EVENT, BUT PARENTS SAY JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN THE SIGOURNEY SEVENTH GRADE CLASS WAS ON THE RIDE WHEN THE CRASH HAPPENED.
