The northern lights were spotted early Wednesday morning from atop the region's highest peak in New Hampshire.Scientists at the Mount Washington Observatory said aurora borealis was spotted from around 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. They said the lights were also visible in northern Vermont and northern Maine. The celestial phenomenon can occur when solar energy from the sun collides with the Earth's magnetic field.
