Nebraska releases Matt Rhule's contract extension, detailing his total salary
HE IS NOT LEAVING LINCOLN. THE HUSKERS HEAD COACH SIGNS A TWO YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION THIS MORNING THAT KEEPS HIM AT NEBRASKA THROUGH 2032. MATT SOTTILE. NOW WITH MORE ON THE DEVELOPMENTS FROM LINCOLN. WHEN PENN STATE’S HEAD COACHING POSITION OPENED UP, IT COULD HAVE MARKED A HOMECOMING FOR MATT RHULE, WHO GREW UP IN STATE COLLEGE AND PLAYED AT PENN STATE. BUT RHULE AND HIS FAMILY HAVE FOUND A NEW HOME AT NEBRASKA. THIS IS OUR HOME LIKE WE LOVE LIVING HERE. I JUST CAN’T SAY THAT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE JUST ABSOLUTELY WELCOMED US AND EMBRACED US. AND I MEAN MY GOAL, MY GOAL IS TO WIN ENOUGH GAMES HERE THAT SOMEDAY I CAN RETIRE HERE. AND PEOPLE YOU KNOW ARE NICE TO ME. IN THE GAS STATION, RHULE ALSO FEELS AT HOME BECAUSE OF THE RELATIONSHIP HE’S BUILT WITH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TROY DANNEN AND THE INVESTMENT HE’S SEEN FROM THE SCHOOL’S ADMINISTRATION. THE MONEY’S THERE. ANY PLACE, BUT NOT EVERY PLACE. CAN YOU BE IN A POSITION TO SUCCEED? COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS CHANGING. AND THIS IS THIS HAS BEEN DO OR DIE TIME FOR UNIVERSITIES. AND THE ALIGNMENT WE HAVE AND THE WILLINGNESS TO INVEST IN THE PROGRAM, TO INVEST IN THE FACILITIES. AND I THINK YOU’RE SEEING A GREAT TIME IN HUSKER ATHLETICS. WHILE THE PROGRAM IS FAR FROM A FINISHED PRODUCT, DAN AND SAW ENOUGH FROM RHULE TO REWARD HIM WITH AN EXTENSION, IT’S ONE THING TO TO GO TAKE A JOB ON THIRD BASE AND GET HOME AND AND BRAG ABOUT THAT RECORD. IT’S ANOTHER THING TO TAKE A JOB WHERE YOU’RE NOT. YOU’RE JUST COMING INTO THE BATTER’S BOX AND YOU’RE TRYING TO GET TO FIRST BASE. AND HE’S DONE THAT THREE TIMES. WE HAVE MUCH, MUCH, MUCH MORE TO DO. AND WE’RE NOT PLEASED WITH WHERE WE ARE, BUT WE ARE PLEASED WITH THE DIRECTION WE’RE HEADED. AND I THINK THAT’S HOPEFULLY A MESSAGE THAT WE CAN SEND TO ALL THE RECRUITS, ALL THE PLAYERS, THAT THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE AND AND WE WANT TO BE HERE. AND WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY THE HUSKERS HAVE ON SATURDAY UNDER THE LIGHTS AGAINST 23RD RANKED USC TO SHOW AS MANY AS 50 TO 60 RECRUITS IN ATTENDANCE. THAT LINCOLN COULD BE THEIR FUTURE HOME, TOO. COVERING THE HUSKERS IN LINCOLN, MATT SOTTILE, KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN SPORTS. THANK YOU MATT. SO IT’S A TWO YEAR EXTENSION THAT KEEPS RURAL IN LINCOLN THROUGH 2032. NO INCREASE IN BASE SALARIES FROM HIS ORIGINAL CONTRACT HE SIGNED WHEN HE GOT THE JOB. HE DOES GET A $1 MILLION ADDED TO HIS DEAL. IF NEBRASKA MAKES IT INTO THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS AND THE BUYOUT OR PENALTY IF RHULE LEAVES FOR ANOTHER COACHING JOB,
