Best Presidents Day deals and what to skip
Presidents Day is approaching, and it's an excellent opportunity to snag great deals.Want to know what’s worth buying? We asked the experts, our Hearst partners at the .
“Good Housekeeping has been testing products for over 125 years, so we really know what makes a great product,” says Jessica Teich, the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Editorial Commerce Director. “We have a team of deal finding experts that works around the clock, around the year, to find the best deals on the best products at the best time.”
Buy: Furniture and large cleaning appliances
Jessica says these items tend to have the deepest discounts – so look for deals on things like dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers. “The steepest savings for Presidents Day will happen during Presidents Day weekend, but you can go ahead and actually start shopping now, because a lot of retailers are already offering discounts,” she says.
Skip: Tech and kitchen gear
These products tend to see steeper sales later in the year. “Black Friday is when you’re going to get those best tech deals,” Jessica says. “Kitchen gear is best bought around Mother’s Day. That is the time to buy your stand mixers, your air fryers, your countertop appliances.”
What about mattresses?
“Mattresses are a little bit tricky during Presidents Day,” Jessica says. “Some retailers and some brands are featuring sales on mattresses, but historically, the best time to shop for mattresses is Memorial Day.”
Additional ways to save
Shopping in-store can also lead to additional savings on floor models. “If you are able to score a floor model and you have a nice salesperson, you can get some additional savings, 10-15% off in some cases,” Jessica says.
