Rossen Reports: How to find lower prices on Instacart
Inflation is hitting every part of our lives hard, but the one area that’s really outpacing everything is food prices. They’re showing a 12.2% spike over the last year, making it the largest increase since 1979. The thing that could be making those prices worse … is using a grocery delivery app. Sure, you really are paying for the convenience of not having to go to the store and do your shopping in person. It’s a great alternative for people who can’t go to the store as well. But after we saw messages about how some apps charge more for each item, we had to investigate.
Watch the video above: We’re going shopping! We want to know; do you pay more for each individual grocery item on the app Instacart than you would if you buy the exact same item in the store yourself? Watch to find out.
What Instacart says
Rossen Reports reached out to Instacart, which told us: “While some retailers on the Instacart platform choose to include item markups, our goal is to offer full transparency to customers as they shop on the platform so they can make choices best suited to their needs.” It also added, “When possible, Instacart works with retailers to bring customers the same prices as found in the physical store.”
How to find the pricing policy
Instacart shows you which retailers charge more on the app, that way you can make the decision if you want to shop there. All you have to do is click on the retailer’s logo on the website or the app. Then it says “View Pricing Policy”. It will tell you some of the following; if the prices are higher than in the store, if it varies, or if they offer “everyday store prices”, which are the prices you’ll find in the store. to read more.
Save on Instacart
Worried that you’ll miss some of those in-store deals? The app has coupons and discounts too. Look for a purple/pink banner that offers a deal. You’ll find it underneath the item. Tap on it and the discount will be sent straight to your cart for checkout. There’s also a “Deals” tab at the bottom for most retailers that will show you all the coupons on items as well. Another tip from shopping experts says to keep checking your email for offers from Instacart. Those emails will have discount codes and coupons for you to use next time you place an order.
