A police officer from southeast Missouri didn’t just protect and serve this week, he delivered a baby. Police Officer James Haney with the Scott City Police Department was nearing the end of his shift when he got a call about a woman in labor.When Haney arrived on the scene, the baby wouldn’t wait a second longer. “Me and mom had a quick talk,” Haney said. “And I was like, 'this is what we’re going to do, and this is how we’re going to do it,' She’s like, ‘okay,’ and literally in a minute or two, we had a baby girl. Again, mom did great.” It’s quite the way to begin a law enforcement career. Haney has only been working for the department for five months and has never delivered a baby. However, he said his 12 years of military training helped him through the situation. The mom and baby are healthy and are currently resting at a local hospital.
