SpaceX launches Starship's 11th test flight out of Texas

SpaceX launches Starship's 11th test flight out of Texas
WE ARE FOLLOWING BREAKING NEWS OUT OF STAR BAY CITY, TEXAS, WHERE SPACEX IS ABOUT TO LAUNCH ITS STARSHIP MEGA ROCKET FOR AN HOUR LONG TEST FLIGHT. THIS IS THE ONE THAT PRETTY MUCH CIRCLES THE WORLD. HERE’S A LIVE LOOK AT THE LAUNCH PAD. RIGHT NOW. THE COUNTDOWN CLOCK IS NOW AT ABOUT 50S. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE A LISTEN IN. ONCE WE GET CLOSER TO THAT BOTTOM PART, BUT THIS IS THE ONE THAT WE’VE SEEN THAT TAKES OFF. THEY TOOK OFF SOME HEAT SHIELDS THIS TIME AROUND TO TEST SOME VULNERABILITIES WITH THIS ROCKET, BECAUSE EVENTUALLY THEY’RE HOPING TO LAUNCH THOSE ROCKETS FROM RIGHT HERE ON OUR SPACE COAST. YEAH. SO THEY’VE DONE SEVERAL TEST FLIGHTS. SOME OF THEM HAVE GONE WELL, SOME OF THEM NOT SO WELL. WE REMEMBER WE SAW AN EXPLOSION THAT HAPPENED DURING ONE OF THEIR TESTINGS, BUT THE LAST ONE IN AUGUST ACTUALLY APPEARED TO GO PRETTY SMOOTHLY. THIS IS THE VERSION TWO OF THIS VEHICLE. THEY’RE EVENTUALLY GOING TO LAUNCH A VERSION THREE OF THIS. AND I THINK, STU, WHAT THEY’RE DOING TODAY IS TESTING OUT SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS WITH THE BOOSTER AND THEN SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS WITH THE UPPER STAGE ROCKET. SO THEY’RE GOING TO WORK OUT SOME KINKS SO THAT THEY CAN EVENTUALLY LAUNCH THIS TO THE MOON. IF ALL GOES WELL, THIS WILL BE LANDING OVER IN THE INDIAN OCEAN AFTER A FLIGHT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. LET’S TAKE A LIVE LISTEN IN AS THEY GET READY TO LAUNCH THIS ROCKET. WE HAVE LIFTOFF. GO SUPER HEAVY! GO, STARSHIP! THANKS FOR ALL THE HISTORIC FLIGHTS. THAT ONE. DOWNRANGE. BOOSTER AFTER CHAMBER PRESSURE. NOMINAL. BOOSTER AND NOMINAL. POWER AND TELEMETRY. ALL RIGHT. WE ARE ABOUT 45 SECONDS INTO FLIGHT. WE’RE STILL GETTING THE RATTLE HERE AT STAR FACTORY. WE ARE SEEING 33 OUT OF 33 RAPTOR ENGINES LIT ON SUPER HEAVY AS IT ARCS ACROSS THE GULF. COMING UP NEXT ON MAX Q. MAX Q SO AT THIS POINT, WE’VE PASSED THROUGH THAT PERIOD OF MAXIMUM AERODYNAMIC PRESSURE. THE NEXT THING WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IS GOING TO BE HOT STAGING. SO WE’VE GOT 33 TO 33 RAPTORS LIT SUPER HEAVY MAKES ITS WAY UPHILL. HOT STAGING IS GOING TO BE COMING UP IN JUST A LITTLE OVER A MINUTE. AT THAT POINT WE’RE GOING TO SEE. ALL BUT THREE OF THOSE RAPTOR ENGINES ON SUPER HEAVY SHUT DOWN OUR VERSION OF MECO. MOST ENGINES CUT OFF INSTEAD OF MAIN ENGINE. AND THEN AFTER THAT WE’RE GOING TO RELEASE THE CLAMPS THAT ARE CURRENTLY HOLDING STARSHIP TO THAT HOT STAGE ADAPTER. IT’S THEN GOING TO IGNITE ITS SIX RAPTOR ENGINES TO PUSH IT AWAY FROM SUPER HEAVY, AND THEN START MAKING ITS FLIGHT UPHILL. SO IN ABOUT 30S, WE’RE GOING TO SEE THE ENGINE START TO SHUT DOWN ON SUPER HEAVY. YOU’LL SEE THEM KIND OF SHUT OFF IN SEPARATE BANKS UNTIL WE’VE JUST GOT THOSE THREE CENTER ENGINES THAT NEVER STOP RUNNING FOR THIS PROCESS AND THEN LOOKING FOR SIX SHIP RAPTORS. ALL RIGHT. MECO COMING UP IN ABOUT 10S. SEE THE ENGINES THROTTLING DOWN. ALL RIGHT. YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE LIVE LAUNCH OF SPACEX’S STARSHIP ROCKET. THIS IS A TEST FLIGHT. THIS ONE IS HAPPENING IN TEXAS. STEWART. BUT HERE ON OUR COAST WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A LAUNCH PRETTY SOON. THAT’S RIGHT. OUR NEXT LAUNCH IS AT 808 TONIGHT, WHERE THE KUIPER MISSION FROM SPACEX WILL BE TAKING SOME AMAZON SATELLITES INTO ORBIT. AND AGAIN, THIS ONE IS JUST GETTING STARTED. IT’S GOING TO LAST FOR AN HOUR. YOU CAN WATCH IT RIGHT NOW OVER ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE. OR YOU CAN ALSO VISIT WESH.COM. AND WE WILL BE MONITORING IT FOR YOU THROUGHOUT T

SpaceX completed a major milestone with its 10th test flight of the Starship upper stage, successfully executing a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean — a feat the company has been pursuing for years.

In recent months, SpaceX said it has made several hardware and operational changes to increase the reliability of Starship following the explosion as it was preparing for its 10th test flight.

SpaceX said the 11th flight test will also experiment and gather data for the next-generation Super Heavy Booster.

"Super Heavy will ignite 13 engines at the start of the landing burn and then transition to a new configuration with five engines running for the divert phase," SpaceX said.
