SpaceX launches Starship's 11th test flight out of Texas
SpaceX launched Starship Monday night at approximately 7:23 p.m. Eastern time, marking its 11th flight test.
According to , this flight test was meant to "build on the successful demonstrations from Starship's tenth flight test."
SpaceX completed a major milestone with its 10th test flight of the Starship upper stage, successfully executing a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean — a feat the company has been pursuing for years.
In recent months, SpaceX said it has made several hardware and operational changes to increase the reliability of Starship following the explosion as it was preparing for its 10th test flight.
SpaceX said the 11th flight test will also experiment and gather data for the next-generation Super Heavy Booster.
"Super Heavy will ignite 13 engines at the start of the landing burn and then transition to a new configuration with five engines running for the divert phase," SpaceX said.
The launch of Starship was moved to the pad at Starbase ahead of its 11th flight test.
SpaceX is hoping for a successful launch and landing following the challenges previous flights of Starship have faced, including spiraling out of control and exploding into fiery pieces over the Atlantic.
Starship has made it to space safely and is now preparing for its in-space objectives.
