Willis defiant sources tell CNN the embattled Fulton County district attorney has no plans of stepping aside or to recuse herself. Willis, an elected democrat indicted former president Donald Trump for his defiance following the 2020 election. Now herself digging in and not backing down something she has done through the nearly three year investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. Even when Trump attacked her personally and in the wings, they've got *** local racist democrat district attorney in Atlanta. The comment does not concern me at all. It's ridiculous in nature, but I support his right to be protected by the first amendment and say what he likes though with *** warning not to cross the line. People have the right to say whatever they choose to say. As long as it does not rise to the level of threats against myself, against my staff or against my family attacks and threats have followed her through her time in office, been called the N word so many times that I don't even think I hear it anymore. It's not going to stop anything that I'm doing, especially as she's taken on high profile cases like the racketeering case against the rapper Young Thug. I've made no secret about it nor any apology that as the district attorney of Fulton County, my number one focus is targeting gangs and *** Rico case against the Atlanta public school system roughly *** decade ago. What happens with no excuses? Willis has grown accustomed to living in the crosshairs of both the public and her political enemies. I knew when I was making the endeavor into several cases that those cases were against high profile individuals that I would be threatened. Did I know in *** matter of *** couple of months it would be 100 something threats. No, the most recent attacks against her coming after the explosive court filing, accusing her of financially benefiting from an improper romantic relationship with her top deputy Nathan Wade. And while she's Wade's professional credentials, she has not directly addressed the allegations. The D *** has not been *** good crisis, communicator. She may be silent now, but she's talked openly in the past about her relationships. I do think that *** relationship is important and that love is important and that you are better with *** partner. A court filing Friday disclosed that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is involved in a "personal relationship" with a special prosecutor she hired for the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump, but she argues there are no grounds to dismiss the case or to remove her from the prosecution.Willis hired special prosecutor Nathan Wade in November 2021 to assist her investigation into whether Trump and others broke any laws as they tried to overturn his loss in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Since Trump and 18 others were indicted in August, Wade has led the team of lawyers Willis assembled to prosecute the case.Wade said in an affidavit attached to the filing that he and Willis developed a personal relationship in 2022 but there was no relationship prior to his appointment as special prosecutor. Wade said that he has no financial interest in the outcome of the case and that no money paid to him in his role as special prosecutor has been shared with Willis."The District Attorney received no funds or personal financial gain from my position as Special Prosecutor," he said.The Friday filing by Willis' team came in response to a motion filed last month by defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant, who represents Trump co-defendant Michael Roman. The motion alleged that Willis and Wade were in an inappropriate romantic relationship that created a conflict of interest. The defense filing seeks to dismiss the case and to have Willis and Wade and their offices barred from further prosecuting the case.Trump and at least one other co-defendant, Georgia attorney Robert Cheeley, have filed motions to join Roman's effort to dismiss the indictment and remove Willis, a Democrat, from the case.Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who's presiding over the election case, has set a Feb. 15 hearing on Roman's motion. Willis and Wade are among a dozen witnesses Merchant has subpoenaed to testify at that hearing.
