News We Love: Twin sisters share the same field — in different ways
HIGHLIGHTING STANDOUT TWIN SISTERS. THEY’RE ON THE SAME FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. EYEOPENER ANCHOR ANTOINETTE ANTONIO HOPPED ON A FERRY TO NANTUCKET TO SHOW US. ON NANTUCKET, FRIDAY NIGHTS MEAN FOOTBALL. BUT THIS HIGH FIVE IS ABOUT MORE THAN TOUCHDOWNS. IT’S ABOUT TWIN SISTERS SHARING THE SAME FIELD IN DIFFERENT WAYS. ONE IN PADS AND ONE WITH POM. MY NAME IS ASHLEY AND MY NAME’S KATIE. I PLAY FOOTBALL, I DO CHEER AND WE GO TO NANTUCKET HIGH SCHOOL. ASHLEY KLATT, THE YOUNGER TWIN BY TWO MINUTES, HAS BEEN THE ONLY GIRL ON THE WHALERS FOOTBALL ROSTER SINCE JOINING THE TEAM FRESHMAN YEAR. IT WAS VERY NERVE WRACKING. IT WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE I WAS THE LITTLEST ONE ON THE TEAM AT THE TIME, AND I LEARNED OVER TIME, LIKE GETTING IN THE WEIGHT ROOM, LEARNING ENDURANCE WITH RUNNING AND A BUNCH OF STUFF. NAME A POSITION. SHE’S PLAYED IT, EVEN QUARTERBACKING A COUPLE TIMES THIS SEASON. HER ENTHUSIASM AND LOVE FOR THE GAME STARTED VERY EARLY. IT’S BEEN GOING ON SINCE I WAS LIKE SIX YEARS OLD. I GREW UP WATCHING THE DALLAS COWBOYS EVERY SUNDAY WITH MY DAD. STOP, STOP. DALLAS COWBOYS? YES, MY DAD’S SIDE OF THE FAMILY IS FROM TEXAS, SO OF COURSE I HAD TO GO THAT WAY. BUT NO ONE HOLDS THAT AGAINST HER. THE GUYS ON THE TEAM SAY SHE’S LIKE A LITTLE SISTER TO THEM. SHE ALWAYS REMEMBERS EVERYONE’S BIRTHDAYS AND STUFF. SHE’S VERY SUPPORTIVE. SHE BRINGS THE MORALE OF THE TEAM UP. SHE’S THERE FOR HER TEAMMATES WHEN THEY NEED HER. LET’S GET FIRED UP. ON THE SIDELINES, TWIN SISTER KATIE, A SENIOR CHEERLEADER, NEVER MISSES A GAME. WE DO LIKE A HANDSHAKE AND THEY CAN’T EVER FORGET THEIR PREGAME RITUAL. I JUST LOVE GOING TO ALL THE GAMES AND CHEERING HER ON AND SEEING HER OUT THERE LIKE, I’M SO PROUD OF HER AND ALL THAT SHE’S ACCOMPLISHED. I LOVE IT BECAUSE WE’VE HAD THIS INCREDIBLE BOND SINCE THE DAY WE WERE BORN, AND WE’VE NEVER BEEN REALLY SEPARATE FROM EACH OTHER. SO SHE SUPPORTS ME IN IN MY DREAMS AND I SUPPORT HER AND HER DREAMS. YOU COULD SAY THEY’RE EACH OTHER’S BIGGEST FANS, BUT ACTUALLY, THAT WOULD BE MOM. THEY’RE COMPLETELY OPPOSITE. ONE’S LEFT HANDED. ONE’S RIGHT HANDED. I MEAN, THEY’VE ALWAYS BEEN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, AND. BUT THEY ALWAYS COME TOGETHER. I THINK THAT’S WHAT MAKES THEM LIKE, BEST FRIENDS. AND JUST LIKE THEIR MOM, BOTH HOPE TO ATTEND ENDICOTT COLLEGE NEXT FALL. KATIE TO PURSUE NURSING, HOPING TO ONE DAY BECOME A MED FLIGHT NURSE. ASHLEY TO STUDY SPORTS MANAGEMENT SO SHE CAN ONE DAY BE A SPORTS REPORTER OR ANALYST. DIFFERENT DREAMS, ONE. SHARED SPIRIT, TWO SISTERS SHOWING WHAT IT MEANS TO LIFT EACH OTHER UP BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD. I THINK THAT YOU COULDN’T HAVE ASKED FOR TWO BETTER GIRLS TO INTERVIEW. THEY’RE JUST A GREAT DUO TOGETHER AND ARE SO SUPPORTIVE OF EVERYTHING IN OUR SCHOOL. ASHLEY AND KATIE KLATT, YOU GET THIS HIGH. ON NANTUCKET ANTOINETTE ANTONIO WCVB NEWSCENTER 5. WHAT A PAIR. VERY NICE. YES. SO IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT IN YOUR SCHOOL WHO DESERVES A HIGH 5 OR 2, WE TAKE PAIRS. AS YOU SEE. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. EMAIL YOUR NOMINA

Twin sisters Ashley and Katie Klatt have shared nearly everything in life — from birthdays to classrooms — and now, the football field. But while they stand on the same turf at Nantucket High School in Massachusetts, they’ve taken very different paths.Ashley, the younger twin by two minutes, is the only girl on the Whalers’ football team. Katie, meanwhile, leads the crowd as a senior cheerleader, cheering on both the team — and her sister — every Friday night.Ashley has played nearly every position — even stepping in at quarterback this season. She joined the team the summer before her freshman year.“It was very nerve-wracking, very scary because I was the littlest one on the team at the time,” Ashley said. “But I learned over time — getting in the weight room, learning endurance, working hard. That team became a second family to me.”Her love of football started young, watching Dallas Cowboys games with her dad every Sunday.“My dad’s side of the family is from Texas,” she laughed. “So, of course, that had to be our NFL team.”Her teammates say she brings more than skill — she brings heart.“She always remembers everyone’s birthdays,” one teammate said. “She brings up team morale, and she’s always there when you need her.”While Ashley is making tackles, Katie is helping lift spirits from the sidelines.“We do a handshake before every game,” Katie said. “I just love cheering her on and seeing her out there. I’m so proud of her and all that she’s accomplished.”Their pre-game ritual is a reminder of the bond they share — one that’s never wavered.“We’ve had this incredible bond since the day we were born,” Ashley said. “She supports me in my dreams, and I support her in hers.”Their mom, Sandy Klatt, says the sisters have always been “completely opposite” — one left-handed, one right-handed — but inseparable.“They always come together,” she said. “That’s what makes them best friends.”Both plan to attend Endicott College next fall — Katie to study nursing with dreams of becoming a MedFlight nurse, and Ashley to major in sports management and pursue a career as a sports reporter or analyst.“They’re just a great duo together,” said Nantucket High School Principal Mandy Hilemn. “They’re so supportive of each other and of everything in our school.”

Ashley, the younger twin by two minutes, is the only girl on the Whalers’ football team. Katie, meanwhile, leads the crowd as a senior cheerleader, cheering on both the team — and her sister — every Friday night.

Ashley has played nearly every position — even stepping in at quarterback this season. She joined the team the summer before her freshman year.

“It was very nerve-wracking, very scary because I was the littlest one on the team at the time,” Ashley said. “But I learned over time — getting in the weight room, learning endurance, working hard. That team became a second family to me.”

Her love of football started young, watching Dallas Cowboys games with her dad every Sunday.

“My dad’s side of the family is from Texas,” she laughed. “So, of course, that had to be our NFL team.”

Her teammates say she brings more than skill — she brings heart.

“She always remembers everyone’s birthdays,” one teammate said. “She brings up team morale, and she’s always there when you need her.”

While Ashley is making tackles, Katie is helping lift spirits from the sidelines.

“We do a handshake before every game,” Katie said. “I just love cheering her on and seeing her out there. I’m so proud of her and all that she’s accomplished.”

Their pre-game ritual is a reminder of the bond they share — one that’s never wavered.

“We’ve had this incredible bond since the day we were born,” Ashley said. “She supports me in my dreams, and I support her in hers.”

Their mom, Sandy Klatt, says the sisters have always been “completely opposite” — one left-handed, one right-handed — but inseparable.

“They always come together,” she said. “That’s what makes them best friends.”

Both plan to attend Endicott College next fall — Katie to study nursing with dreams of becoming a MedFlight nurse, and Ashley to major in sports management and pursue a career as a sports reporter or analyst.

“They’re just a great duo together,” said Nantucket High School Principal Mandy Hilemn. “They’re so supportive of each other and of everything in our school.”
