RAGBRAI archives: 140 US Air Force bikers stormed into Day 1
140 United States Air Force bikers stormed into Rag R's first day the way they would in *** battle united in their challenge. Yes. And on *** ride where some bikers are in over their heads, the Secretary of the United States Air Force, Sheila Widnall, one of *** very few women who have risen to that level of power stands above *** leader ready to act as an example for air force bikers and others younger than her. I just really welcome the opportunity to kind of be the team leader if you will and sort of encourage them and figure if, if I can do this ride, they can do it. No rides 3000 miles *** year on her bike. *** figure that would outshine most people on this ride. She credits bike exercise for adding some spice to those dreary military briefings. Yeah, you can get *** little stale, so to speak. And so I really do like to start the day with some vigorous exercise so that I feel pretty peppy all day long. Whitall is relaxed enough to speak to rowdy Rag bri revelers and tell them to have fun. This week is respected enough to be one reason Air Force F-16 Jet saluted rag by, with *** scorching fly by. She's also down to earth enough to know that Iowa offers more than just *** bike ride over *** flat piece of land. I know it's possible to gain weight on this ride. Uh, tomorrow I think is gonna be, you know, really *** killer day. Yeah.
