Iowa State Fair 2022: Your guide to Iowa's largest event

Iowa State Fair 2022: Your guide to Iowa's largest event
WATER STILL SLIDES OFF THE BIG RED MILL AND SPLASHES INTO THE STREAM BELOW 100 YEARS AFTER HE OLD MILL’S CREATION. NOT AT ALL. NOT ONE IOTA. HASN’T CHANGED. NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED IN A CENTURY. IT IS GETTING IN A BOAT AND YOU GO DOWN A TUNNEL AND IT’S DARK. AND THEN THERE’S LIKE THESE LIGHTS AND THERE’S PICTURES LIKE ON THE WALL. AND IT TELLS THE HISTORY ABOUT THE RIDE OR THE FARE. BUT THERE IS ONE BIG DIFFERENCE. IT’S A WHOLE NEW BUILDING. A WINDSTORM DESTROYED THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE IN THE SPRING OF 96, BUT IT WAS REPLACED BY THE FAIR THAT YEAR AND REBUILT TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME AS ITS PREDECESSOR. WE ALWAYS MAKE SURE WE HIT THIS PLACE FOR SURE. FOR SOME, IT’S A TRADITION. I HAVE BEEN WRITING IT FOR 36 YEARS. I WAS HERE WHEN I WAS TWO WEEKS OLD. OTHERS ARE ONLY HERE FOR THE ROMANCE. WE WANTED TO COME DOWN HERE AND GO THROUGH THE TUNNEL OF LOVE. AND THIS WILL BE CLOSE ENOUGH. AND THEN THERE ARE THOSE WITH FUN CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. MY COUSIN AND I, WE WOULD RIDE IT. AND IT WAS FUN. ALL I REMEMBER MY FANNY WOULD GET WET, BUT IT WAS FUN. THERE ARE A MILLION REASONS THOUSANDS OF IOWANS RIDE THE OLDEST PERMANENT RIDE AT THE FAIR. JUST SOMETHING WE’VE ALWAYS DONE WHENEVER WE’RE HERE, I GUESS. AND A MILLION MORE MEMORIES TO BE MADE OVER THE NEXT 100 YEARS. I’VE GOT TO GET HIM GOING SO I CAN GET A KISS ON THE ROAD AND HAVE A GOOD DAY. AND YOU CAN SEE JUST HOW DARK IT GETS WHEN YOU’RE INSIDE HERE. IT’S A NICE PLACE TO COME AND COOL OFF ON A HOT STATE. FAIR DAY. BUT THE OLD MILL IS OPEN EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE FAIR. TICKETS ARE ONLY $3, SO COME ON DOWN. WE’RE LIVE AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR. BEAU BOWMA
