Iowa State Fair 2022: Your guide to Iowa's largest event
This year, the Iowa State Fair runs from Thu., Aug. 11 through Sun., Aug. 21.
Advance admission tickets cost $9 for adults (ages 12 and up) and $5 for children (ages 6 to 11). Tickets at the gate cost $14 for adults and $8 for children. Other ticket options provide discounts on adult beverages, barnyard yoga, demolition derby and giant slide tickets among others.
There are metal detectors at the entrances to the fair and the fair does not allow weapons.
Vendors will be accepting cash as well as credit cards.
The Iowa State Fair manager Gary Slater spoke with vlog about parking at the state fair.
“Probably the biggest tip that I have is the Park and Rides… that’s the easiest way to come and go from the Iowa State Fair. But if you need your car here? Yes, we have parking available in about 40 acres in our North lot.”
The state fair grandstand acts include Skillet, Brooks & Dunn, Nelly, Demi Lovato, and Alanis Morissette, among others.

Food on a stick
Food on a stick is a state fair tradition. There are 62 foods on a stick at the fair this year, including a deep-fried brownie on a stick, a chicken bacon ranch waffle on a stick, and a veggie corn dog among others.
