NOBODY WAS HURT, BUT FIREFIGHTERS SAY THE FIRE WAS DIFFICULT TO PUT OUT BECAUSE OF THE EQUIPMENT OIL PROVIDED A FUEL SOURCE AND THE HIGH HEAT OUTSIDE. vlog IS PEPPER. PURPURA IS IN AMES WITH STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND A COOL PLACE TO GO. HERE HERE AT THE IOWA STATE CAMPUS, A POWER PLANT FIRE KNOCKING OUT AC ALL ACROSS CAMPUS NOW A VARIETY OF BUILDINGS ALL AROUND NOT HAVING POWER. WE HAVE SOME KIDS WAITING HERE AT THE BUS STOP BEING TOLD THAT IF THEY’RE ABLE TO TO GO AHEAD AND HEAD HOME FOR THE WEEKEND. YOU SAID THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE PLANS TO GET OUT OF HERE AS WELL, RIGHT? YES. I AM AWESOME. AND YOU ARE LIVING ON CAMPUS AT THE MOMENT? I AM, YES. OKAY. AND WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN? WHAT HAS IT BEEN LIKE IN THOSE DORMS? IT’S DEFINITELY GETTING HOTTER BY THE MINUTE. MY AC USUALLY CAN GO TO 65 AND BE PERFECTLY FINE, BUT IT’S JUST IT’S GETTING HOT AND I’M NOT. I’M NOT FOR IT. YEAH, I DON’T BLAME YOU. IT’S NOT IN THIS WEATHER. WELL, THEY ARE GOING TO BE CANCELING CLASSES TODAY AND TOMORROW AND TRYING TO SEE WHAT THE PLAN IS MOVING FORWARD AFTER THAT. HOW QUICKLY THEY CAN GET AC BACK IN THESE BUILDINGS SO THEY CAN GET CLASSES GOING, EVEN THOUGH THEY JUST STARTED ON MONDAY AT THE IOWA STA

A fire at the Iowa State University campus power plant has disrupted classes and activities Thursday in Ames. In a news release posted around 1:20 p.m. Thursday, officials said no injuries have been reported but the fire caused issues with the cooling system on campus. Highs are expected to approach 100 degrees Thursday and will be in the low-90s Friday before dropping into the 80s through the weekend, according to the latest vlog forecast."As a result, classes that can, will move online for the remainder of Thursday, Aug. 24 and all day Friday, Aug. 25," the news release said. "Students should check email and Canvas for information from their instructors. Veterinary Medicine classes are NOT canceled as it is not impacted by the cooling system." The ISU release continued:"Students living on campus, who have the ability to go home for the weekend, are encouraged to do so. University leaders are working on ways to assist students who need to stay on campus."All activities for Thursday, Aug. 24 are canceled.
