Need help finding the perfect gift for the kids? Good Housekeeping's annual can save you some time and guesswork.
For months, experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute have been testing hundreds of toys, from tech gadgets to creative playsets, to see which ones children love most. Their goal: to help parents find gifts that are not only fun but worth the money.
“Engineers and analysts test these toys here in our Good Housekeeping Institute labs, as well as send these toys out to hundreds of consumer families across the country so we can get real-world feedback,” said Alec Scherma, test engineer at the Good Housekeeping Institute.
The testing team even brings kids into the lab to watch how they play, laugh and engage, helping them see what truly holds their attention.
Here are some of this year's top picks:
For babies and toddlers
Colorful, silly and full of movement, Battat’s Whacky Mooves is like a vegetable-themed version of Whac-A-Mole. The light-up toy encourages coordination and lets little ones go wild in “free play” mode.
"Kids in our testing love this toy," said Scherma. "They love taking the mallet and just going to town on these vegetables. And the fun part is there's even a 'free play' mode. So they don't have to follow any sort of directions, and they can just whack as many vegetables as they want."
For preschoolers
Preschoolers can get hands-on with the Goodyear Mega Car Engine Repair Set, which lets them “fix” and rebuild their own mini engine. The set includes a toy electric screwdriver and removable parts, offering an early peek into how cars work.
"Taking apart the wheels and taking apart the engine truly blew their mind, and they loved putting it together and taking apart," said Scherma.
For little artists
For creative kids, the Crayola Marker Airbrush transforms regular markers into spray art. The set includes stencils and works with other Crayola markers. They are also washable, so parents can relax if things get messy.
"The cool thing about this Crayola airbrush is you don't just have to use the colors that come with it," said Scherma. "You can also use any other Crayola markers you have at home to make any fancy design that you want."
For big kids
Older kids will love the Tech Deck Shred and Blast Motorized Skateboard, a fast-moving set that launches a foam toy skateboarder off ramps for gravity-defying stunts.
"Kids loved how high the skateboarder would go when using this ramp," said Scherma.
Shop early
Good Housekeeping’s annual toy list is one of the most trusted guides of the season — meaning these toys could sell out fast. We recommend shopping early and signing up for restock alerts.
