vlog archives: Jack Taylor scores NCAA record 138 points for Grinnell

Good evening everyone. Thank you for joining us. You know, about 24 hours ago, Jack Taylor was *** pretty typical Iowa college student. Today, the Grinnell College sophomore and his 138 points are the national buzz, but he made time to talk with our Eric Hansen for tonight's top story. Yes, until last night, no college basketball player had ever scored more than 113 points in *** game. Then Jack Taylor got hot and his phone started ringing. You're getting tired of shooting hoops. Some games. No, the ball just won't fall. I shot the ball pretty poorly. After Saturday's measly 28 points. Jack Taylor's slump needed correcting. And so my teammates and my coaches wanted to get me going offensively. So Tuesday, when Faith Baptist entered Grinnell's high octane gym, Jack became the go to guy. If *** guy hits *** 3, we want to get him *** 3 again the next possession. Our philosophy is to feed the hot hand. Jack's hand ignited. I started hitting shots in the first half and came in the locker room at halftime. They said I had 58 points and I was kind of shocked by that. That's the moment Grinnell's game plan went hyper. They said we're going to give you the ball every time down the court if you're shooting like this every time. It was kind of cool for the home crowd to start chanting my name. Thres dropped. I think I hit 7 or 8 threes in *** row. Jack passed 100. That's when I knew it was starting to become special and then kept getting the ball. It just seemed whatever. I threw up was going in, whether it was off balance or whether I was fading away, it didn't really matter, but he had no idea how astronomical his numbers were until coach told me in the locker room 138 points, but that's not all. I know that I shot 108 shots, which is *** record. I shot 71 threes, which is *** record. I think I had 27 threes made, which is *** record, which is why the phone started ringing. They were pulling me in interviews right away with ESPN and SportsCenter, and it didn't stop. It feels like I woke up in kind of *** different world. Tweets from Kobe and LeBron, interviews with Today and GMA. It's starting to sink in, but Jack knows the spotlight wouldn't have been possible without his supporting cast. I can't thank them enough for how unselfish they were. And Tuesday's hot hand. Luckily for me. Um, the ball was going in. Jack had planned to go home to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving, but now he has too many media commitments, so he'll be eating turkey at his coach's house in Grinnell. To put it into perspective, he shot the ball 3 times per minute, scored almost 4 points per minute, and this was just Grinnell's 3rd game of the. Season Grinnell is *** team that I've seen stories on. I think we've done stories on it too. They are *** team known for *** high scoring offense to begin with. Yeah, absolutely. They typically shoot within 10 seconds and rotate players constantly, but this was wild by even their standards. Yes, this is pretty darn great. Eric, thank you.
