Today becomes number one day. We're an underdog were *** challenger, but we're ready to work for Iowans. Everyone that we talked to on the campaign trail is saying, hey, our families like yours were having *** hard time. Let's get out there. Let's change the way Dc does business in Iowa has *** great playbook for being successful. We want to take that to Washington.

Zach Nunn has won the Republican primary for Iowa's third congressional district, according to AP estimates. The state senator collected about 66% of the votes. He faced challengers Gary Leffler and Nicole Hasso.The race was called at 9:15 p.m. Leffler called Nunn to congratulate him:Nunn took the podium at about 9:30 p.m. Nunn, of Bondurant, will face incumbent Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne in the November general election.In a statement Tuesday night, Nunn said, “I’m honored to be the Republican Nominee for Congress in Iowa’s Third Congressional District. I could not have done this without my hard-working team, grassroots supporters, and national advocates joining our mission."Nunn has spent the past seven years in the Iowa state House. He's a combat veteran and small business owner who's now fighting to flip Iowa's only blue seat on Capitol Hill."For the last two years, I think Americans have been frustrated by the fact that we've seen gas prices nearly double, that we have seen inflation at a 40-year high, that we see young families trying to buy their first home and recognize that the mortgage rate is now too high for them. And the price of a home, alone, is well beyond their means," Nunn said.He says his mission is to strengthen the economy and national defense."The failure in Afghanistan this past year, the tragedy of lack of defined American leadership in the world — from Ukraine to China to the Middle East.
